Another highly successful Robotex MRC 2025 Award Ceremony was organized by the Cyprus Computer Society (CCS) and hosted by the Bank of Cyprus on October 15, 2025.

During the event, the winners of the 8th Pancyprian Robotics Competition Robotex and the 2nd Minoan RobotSports Competition (MRC) were awarded. Both competitions took place last June under the Auspices of the President of the Republic of Cyprus, Mr. Nikos Christodoulides.

The ceremony was addressed by Ms. Constantina Achilleos, President of the Youth Board of Cyprus (ONEK), one of the co-organizers of Robotex MRC Cyprus. A greeting was also delivered on behalf of the Director General of the Research and Innovation Foundation (RIF) by Ms. Marilena Paraskeva, Head of Funding Programmes. The RIF and the Deputy Ministry of Research, Innovation and Digital Policy support the event as diamond sponsor, contributing to the advancement of technological development in Cyprus.

Over 400 attendees had the opportunity before the ceremony to take photos at the AI Photobooth and participate in the JOEY Memory Game and Rubic Cube Challenge, all offered by the Bank of Cyprus. The winners of these side competitions were announced by Ms. Elli Ioannidou, Director of Corporate Social Responsibility at the Bank of Cyprus.

The event opened with a presentation of the European projects in which CCS is involved. As noted by Mr. Toumazis Toumazi, CCS Project Officer, through these projects CCS implements actions to promote and enhance the ICT sector in Cyprus for all residents, regardless of age, gender, or ethnicity. This was followed by a Volunteer Awards segment, presented by Mr. Andreas Loutsios, President of CCS. This year, individuals who have been contributing their time and expertise to CCS robotics competitions since the first Robotex Cyprus in 2017 were honoured. Coaches, trainers, and educators were also recognised for their dedication, guidance, and inspiration to their students.

The stars of the evening were, of course, the 180 robotists — students, university students, and adults — who excelled with their teams in more than 25 different competition challenges!

The awards, designed and crafted by Robo, were presented by representatives of the organizations supporting the event, including the University of Cyprus, IET Cyprus, the Ministry of Education, Sports and Youth, and ETEK. Other partners include ECCOMBX, which this year strengthens CCS initiatives, as well as Bank of Cyprus, XM, Neapolis University, Hellas Sat, Kardex, ICDL, Novatex, ZEBRA, and Netinfo. Lyceum students also received scholarships offered by private universities — NUP, EUC, UNIC, UoL, Frederick,  UCLan and AUB Mediteraneo.

A major highlight of the evening was the announcement that several of the awarded robotics teams will represent Cyprus at Robotex International in Estonia this December, while the winners of the MRC challenges will compete under the Cypriot flag at the MRC Global Olympiad to be held in Crete in April. We wish them continued success and hope they will uphold Cyprus’s strong international presence in educational robotics!

Until the next Robotex MRC Cyprus, scheduled for the last weekend of June 2026, the Cyprus Computer Society continues to organize competitions for the current school year, such as the Bebras Challenge and the Olympiad in Informatics. The FIRST® LEGO® League, themed around archaeology, has also been announced. Moreover, next week Cyprus will welcome participants from nine countries traveling to Larnaca to take part in the Junior Balkan Olympiad in Informatics (JBOI).
