The return of Robotex Cyprus

Τhe 4th Pancyprian Robotex Robotics Competition organized by the Cyprus Computer Society (CCS) was successfully completed οn Sunday, October 24, 2021. Robotex Cyprus 2021 was under the auspices of the President of the Republic of Cyprus and was hosted at the Gymnasio Agiou Ioannou Chrysostomou in Lakatamia.

During the weekend of October 16 and 17, the popular Line Following & SUMO challenges were implemented. The young “robotists” with their teams and coaches created and programmed robots in advance to take part in theinnovative challenges. Following up on Sunday, October 24, the Exhibition of Educational Robotics was organized where elementary school students presented their robotic projects on the theme of Green Smart Cities.

The winning teams can be seen in the "Results" section of the website www.robotex.org.cy, have the opportunity to participate in the next Robotex International which will take place on 5-7 November 2021 in Estonia. It is noted that during the previous international competition in December 2019, the national winners returned to Cyprus with plenty international awards!

The participant’s families were able to attend the competition as spectators, following all the protocols and measures against the pandemic. The Board Chairman of CCS Mr. Costas Agrotis stated: "This year's competition became a reality despite the problems of the coronavirus thanks to the efforts of the organizing team, our volunteers and supporters. I hope that the pandemic will pass and next year’s competition will be a celebration of technology with the presence of parents, friends and associates". The principal of Gymnasio Agiou Ioannou Chrysostomou, Ms. Ioulia Schiza, mentioned that: "We are proud to have Robotex Cyprus in our school. I wish everyone good luck. In such competitions, the most important thing is the participation and experience and not the winning as such. We are grateful to the Cyprus Computer Society for its contribution".

It is noteworthy that two teams from Poland participated in the national competition Robotex who chose Cyprus to "train" for the World competition. The teams noted that they were impressed by the event and the whole organisation.

After two years of the pandemic, without large events and group activities, Robotex Cyprus 2021 was a special robotic experience, for the benefit of young contestants, thanks to the valuable support of volunteers, stakeholders and sponsors.

The 4th Pancyprian Robotics Competition was co-organized by the University of Cyprus, the Cyprus Youth Board and the Institute of Engineering and Technology (IET Cyprus Local Network), in collaboration with Cyta which is a strategic partner of CCS and XM as technology partner. The Bank of Cyprus also participated as Youth Supporter, EKO as platinum sponsor, Neapolis University and Research and Innovation Foundation as gold sponsors and was supported by dozens of companies and all private universities.
