Robotex Cyprus Award Ceremony 22

The Robotex 22 Award Ceremony was organized by the Cyprus Computer Society (CCS), on October 13, 2022, at the Siakoleio Clinical Medicine Training Center of the University of Cyprus. The event honors those who won first places in the 5th Robotex Pancyprian Robotics Competition, which was successfully completed in June.

The event was welcomed by the Deputy Minister of Research, Innovation and Digital Policy Mr. Kyriakos Kokkinos, representing the State, since the event is under the auspices of the President of the Republic. As the Deputy Minister stated, "As a State, we attach particular importance to and support initiatives such as Robotex, which encourage and promote in practice the formation of the new generation of scientists in our country."

Mr. Costas Agrotis, President of CCS, thanked the volunteers and the institutions that contribute to the establishment of the Robotex Cyprus brand, i.e. the co-organizers (ONEK, University of Cyprus, IET), the organizations that approved the competition (YPPAN, ETEK, Digital Champion), the major sponsors (Cyta, XM, BOC, EKO, Exness, Neapolis) and all the companies that financially support the event.

Firstly the organizers offered an honorary plaque to the family of Andreas Antoniou, the young volunteer that the Robotex family lost at the beginning of this year. In memory of Andreas, Robotex Volunteer Award was launched. In particular, two members of the Scientific Committee were honored who particularly support the CCS objective for greater participation of girls in order to increase the participation of women in professions in the field. Irini Schiza and Melpo Pittara were awarded because with their actions so far they have given courage to countless girl robotists to follow their dreams!

Afterwards, representatives of the organizations involved in the event presented awards to 135 students and adults that won in the final phase for the 21 different challenges of the competition! All winners received medals and certificates, the innovative PCB Ruler, as a gift from Robo.com.cy and the winners of the Engino challenges, discount coupons from the Engino company. The lyceum students also received scholarships offered by all the Private Universities (Neapolis, European, UNIC, Frederick & UCLan).

It is noted that several of the winning roboticists who were awarded, will travel to Estonia in November to represent our country at Robotex International, in which every time the Cypriots sweep the prizes!

Until the next Robotex event, for which you will see announcements on the page https://robotex.org.cy , the Cyprus Computer Society organizes various competitions on technology and digital skills such as the Bebras IT & Computational Thinking competition for primary and gymnasium students that was recently announced.
