Robotex MRC 2025: Registrations are now open!

The Cyprus Computer Society (CCS) announces that registrations for Robotex MRC Cyprus 2025 are now open! The 8th Robotex Cyprus and the 2nd Minoan RobotSports Competition (MRC) will take place simultaneously at the University of Cyprus Sports Centre over the weekend of 28–29 June 2025.
The largest educational robotics festival in Cyprus is organized by the Cyprus Computer Society with the University of Cyprus, the Youth Board, and the IET Cyprus as co-organizers. The event is held under the auspices of the President of the Republic Nicos Christodoulides while it has been approved by the Ministry of Education, Sports and Youth and ΕΤΕΚ.
The event is addressed to students of all ages and levels in public and private institutions and adults (including teachers and instructors, professionals, and parents) and the participation fee per team is 50 euros. The winning teams of the Robotex challenges will participate in the next Robotex International in Tallinn, Estonia in December 2025, from which in previous years the Cypriot delegation returned with a number of distinctions. Similarly, the winning teams of the MRC challenges will participate in the MRC international event in Crete.
New and classic challenges
The SUMO robotic battles and the Line Following speed races of Robotex are enriched again this year with the sport related challenges of archery, shot put, car rally and the long-awaited drones challenge which will be driven by skillful operators through a route with obstacles. Considering last year’s large number of participations in these challenges this year’s participations will exceed all expectations.
Two new challenges are introduced in the 2025 edition of the event! In the new bowling competition the robot will try to roll the ball and knock down the pins to score points! The Maze Line Following challenge which is a variation of the well-known Maze Solving challenge the maze is bounded by black lines that the robot must interpret, avoid the various dead-ends, follow the correct path to reach the exit in the minimum possible time.
Implementing its declared policy to attract more women in STEM fields, the CCS implements again this year the Girls Fire Fighting challenge and invites girls and women to organize teams and participate in the international Robotex International event.
“Robots and the world of water” is the theme of the now well-established educational robotics exhibition for primary school students, in which this year, in addition to the Engino and Lego platforms, teams will be able to use the Makeblock platform. With the scarcity of water in Cyprus this year, the topic is as topical as ever and the young roboticists are expected to amaze us with their robotic constructions and solutions they will propose to address the problem. The Open Category for robotics is addressed to secondary and technical level education students and university students who can use a combination of robotic platforms and innovate by proposing a solution to a problem of their choice.
Contribution of companies, institutions, volunteers
This year’s event is highlighted by the presence of ECOMMBX that participates for the first time as the “Powered by” sponsor, while CCS continues its valuable cooperation with the Bank of Cyprus as “Youth Supporter” and XM as “Tech Partner”. Robotex MRC Cyprus 2025 is also supported by public and private entities with a large number of volunteers participating as judges, referees, technical controllers and result entry admin users.
We also appraise the continuous support of the private universities Neapolis University Pafos, EUC - European University, UNIC - University of Nicosia, UoL - University of Limassol, Frederick University and UCLan - University of Central Lancashire that have been sponsoring the event over the years by offering scholarships to the eligible winning lyceum school students and welcome the newly established American University of Beirut based in Paphos.
Robotex MRC Cyprus 2025 will showcase the Kypruino UNO+, an upgraded and more powerful version of the classic Arduino UNO R3 board, designed and developed in Cyprus by robo.com.cy and introduced in last year’s event. This advanced edition celebrates further the Cyprus's innovation and technological progress, merging the globally recognized Arduino platform with local expertise. Kypruino aims to inspire the next generation of engineers and makers in Cyprus and beyond. It has already been introduced to several international networks and discussions are underway with foreign organizations for its distribution. Special discounted pricing will be available exclusively for participants of the competition.
Robotex MRC Cyprus is expanding and also the requirement for support is increasing in parallel. Our network of volunteers is doing a great job delivering an excellent event and the community created is also participating in the international events in which the CCS is represented. We invite university students, young professionals of all disciplines who are interested in contributing and supporting our non-profit work as volunteers, judges and referees at the event to contact us by phone at 22460680, and by email at [email protected] and [email protected].
The two-day event is open to the public and technology enthusiasts and the entrance is free for all. We invite you for an action-packed weekend of robotics and sporting battles, to cheer on all the youngsters who will be taking part, while enjoying interactive exhibitions, music and dance performances and other events for young and old alike.
Register to Participate!
Aspiring roboticists and beyond – with the guidance of a coach, are invited to form teams and create robots that will compete in the 25+ different challenges of the event. Registration is open via www.robotex.org.cy until Wednesday, May 28, 2025.
